From Frustration to Laughter

In just a few weeks I will be attending a 5 Day Speakers’ Training Conference in Branson, Missouri through Christian Communicators. What a thrill!!

What do I expect? A LOT! Some of the expectations include:

  • Event Planning
  • Clarifying my Ministry
  • Improving my Speaking Skills
  • Learning more about Sharing my Story
  • Developing new Friendships
  • Following God’s Lead

  • Professional Headshot
  • A 5-minute professional videotape of me speaking…
    • This is so exciting! A video that I can place on my website and send to event planners
      • Which brings me to this story…

Dress Code for Video…

There are a few guidelines for the professional attire when standing in front of a TV camera.

  • No Black
  • No White
  • No Green
  • No Prints
  • No Stripes
  • No Pale Tones
  • No Noisy / Jingly Jangle Jewelry

“Ok, I can do this!” NOT!

The search was on for an outfit… my schedule the last several weeks has included:

  • Search the Internet
  • Go to several thrift stores (I’m frugal)
  • Search the Internet
  • Go to the mall
  • Search the Internet
  • Go to another mall
  • Search the Internet
  • Go to boutiques… you get the idea!!

After visiting just about every store in my town and the surrounding municipalities, I returned to the mall; no price tag checking this time, just FIND A TOP!

I looked in store after store from one end of the mall to another.

Exhausted I returned to the first store I had entered. Out of desperation, I bought a yellow top I had asked them to hold hours ago. I know, I can hear you saying, “Probably too light.”

I KNOW!! And it has some pattern in the material… I hear ya! “Too busy!”

There I stood, frustrated, tired, and ready to just get this purchase over.

I smiled at the cheery cashier, “I’m not too sure if I’m going to keep this top. I may bring it back tomorrow but I’ll leave the tags on.”

Inside I am clearly frustrated but I was trying hard not to show it.

Before she rings up my purchase the cashier begins to attempt to sell me on obtaining a store credit card. She goes on and on and on about the credit card benefits; savings on current purchase, coupons to my inbox, and just how great it was. I declined at least 5 times… so then she tried to get me to sign up for the rewards program… “No thank you.”…and then some other program.

“No thanks I really just want to buy this and leave,” I say with a pasted-on smile.

Then I hear her ask, “Do you want to keep your anger?

I thought what the heck. ‘Do I want to keep my anger?”

I said to her, “I’m so sorry I didn’t realize that I was coming across as angry, yes I’m just a little-frustrated cuz I can’t find what I want and I need to get it soon. But so sorry I came across as angry.”

She looked at me like I was crazy and says, “I asked you do you want to keep your hanger?” LOL

Do I want to keep my hanger?!

This cracked me up. What a great God I have!

He pointed out my silliness and how trivial this concern really was!

“It’s a top, Susan! It’s just a top!” God gently said with a huge sprinkling of humor.

As the book title says, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us, Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

The reason I started this blog was to share how God is in my everyday activities. God did not disappoint… He showed up at the mall.

No, He didn’t part water, burn a bush, or turn water into wine, but He made me laugh. He put life into perspective.yellow-top.jpg

Who could ask for more?

He was concerned for my cranky mood. He made me smile. and helped me stop focusing on the insignificant. So what if my outfit is not camera perfect?

What I should be concentrating on is praying for God to be in the midst of this conference, for me to hear His plan for me and for the other ladies in attendance.

Sharing Christ is what is important… His message of HOPE.

HOPE in Christ.

Romans tells us to Rejoice in Hope!

A beautiful picture comes to mind when I read that phrase; Rejoice in Hope!

God cares about every little thing in my life! My yellow top, my frustration, and yes my anger.

Most importantly He wants me to use the gifts He has given me… and that is exactly what I want to do!

My heart’s desire is to learn how to communicate my Jesus Story effectively so that all one sees and hears is Jesus!

What a great God I serve!

Rejoice with me!

Blessings, Susan
