Sweet Phrases

Early this morning one of our good friends contacted us; his wife’s pathology report said “No Tumor Present.”

Sweet sweet words.

“No Tumor Present.”

March of last year we received the same news for Wade, my husband. Are there any sweeter words than “No Tumor Present”?

How about “You’ve Been Approved” or “You Passed!” or better yet, “You’re Not Guilty”?

When we applied for our first mortgage what a thrill it was to hear, “You’ve been approved”!

Or how about the time I tore open the letter from The Board of Nursing and read “You Passed”?!!

For over 12 weeks I had walked out to the mailbox to check for my RN test results. 12 weeks!! Even though I knew that the Board of Nursing had changed the testing process and had told us that it would take up to 3 months or more to get our results, I started checking on about day 10!

I still remember when Sonya, another nursing student, called me with her results. I was on our yellow landline phone when she said, “I PASSED!”.  Immediately I  ran out to the mailbox. A thin envelope should mean I passed. A thick one most likely meant I failed as all the forms for applying to retake the test should be inside. Yeah, thin envelope… “You Passed’!!

What if it said, “You Failed”? HUGE disappointment! Fortunately I would have been provided another chance to take the test, but there comes a point when time has run out and there are no more “do overs”.

There is an even scarier phrase than “You Failed” and it is “You’re Guilty!”

I watch and read a lot of crime shows and books. One of my biggest fears is being arrested and found guilty of something I did not do. The thought of being in a tiny, cold cell and being innocent makes my stomach tightens up.

“Guilty!” That is exactly what God should be saying when I stand before Him.

Some of you may be asking, “Guilty of what?” No I did not rob a bank, physically hurt someone, or anything like that, but I know I am guilty of a lot of rotten thoughts, words, and actions.

The Bible tells us that ALL have SINNED and fallen short of the GLORY of GOD. ALL of Us!

However the Good News is that I will hear “You are NOT Guilty.”

How do I know this? Because His Word, The Bible, tells us that although “…all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God…” we have been made acceptable to God and are FREE OF THE GUILT OF SIN. (Romans 3:22-24)

Is that possible? YES, through Christ.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son,

that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

(John 3:16 NIV)

Let’s breakdown that verse…

♥  “For God so loved the world” – THE WORLD – God loved ALL of us!!

♥  “He gave His one and only Son” – HIS SON – Christ

♥  “whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” – The gift of eternal life is there for the taking…

♦ all one has to do is believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and was resurrected… and the results?

What will you hear when you stand before God? Do you know Him as your Lord and Savior? If not please check out Knowing God and ask Jesus into your life. There comes a time when there is no longer an opportunity for a do over.

What are some of your “Sweet Phrases?”
