What a treat!
Today my husband called me at work and said he was outside in the parking lot. I’ve worked here for over a year and he has never stopped by; he’s too busy and I’m too busy.
But today we found time to stop and smell the barbecue. To my delight my husband brought barbecue sandwiches and coleslaw for us to share for lunch.
It’s the little things that make a relationship special. I don’t need flowers delivered or a diamond bracelet, just a thoughtful gesture. (Okay, I am not saying I wouldn’t like either one of these!)
For example, bringing me a cup of coffee in the morning and me getting him iced tea in the evening…small simple acts that say I love you.
We all fail at times…NO I FAIL at times (I can’t assume what’s going on with you!)…to do those down to earth, humble, simple actions that just let someone know they are cared for.
I have a friend who is in her early 70s who puts me to shame! She is always going that 2nd, 3rd, 4th mile for others. APRIL, you are so kind-hearted.
I challenge you. I challenge me….Are we described by others by our kindness, our humble heart, our godliness???
What word pictures come to mind when others think of you and me?
Faithfulness? Forgiving? Filled with kindness?
If not, it is in our hands to change those word pictures. We can start today to be the person God designed us to be!
Kind words are like honey—
sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24
To this day I remember the kind Hilton Garden Hotel Maintenance Manager in Philadelphia that lent me $100 when my purse was stolen in 2007! AND the hotel waiter who offered to do the same that evening when he heard of my plight.
And the kind words of a physician who recently told me I had taught her a lot.
My sister and sister-in-laws take the cake when it comes to kind words…truly sweet like honey. I could list many names here (CB…you know who you are!)
I pray that my words are comforting to others…and that it is my kind words and actions that are recalled when I am thought of and not the stupid, silly, thoughtless words that can sometimes recklessly spill from my mouth!
I’m trying. I’m a work in progress.
