Be Transplanted AND Bear Fruit ~ by susan werthem

This morning my husband, Wade, filled 2 garbage cans with leaves. When he returned home from work…the front yard looked like he never raked leaf one!

How long is this oak tree in Florida going to shed its leaves?

Wade said he was not going to rake another leaf until every one has fallen from the tree! And honestly I cannot blame him.

BUT – I know my husband; he will be out there raking again tomorrow.

Up until last year we had 2 fruit trees in our backyard. They would bloom, tricking us every year into thinking; Yes! This year they will produce fruit! 20140318-215709.jpg

NEVER! Okay, I cannot say never. The orange tree did produce the world’s worst sour puny oranges…maybe about 5 last year.

And the tangerine tree seemed to shrink every year.

Our soil. Too moist. Wrong PH. You name it, the soil was just not suitable.

Healthy citrus trees need good soil. The right acidity. Good drainage. Rich soil.

In order for us to produce good fruit in our lives, we need to draw our sustenance from Christ…be enriched by Him…rooted in His Word.

“Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.” Colossians 2:7 (NLT)

Psalm 1 tells us when we associate with godly people and delight in His Word we are blessed.

That we “shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he doeth shall prosper” Psalm 1:3 (WBT)

A tree that is removed from its native soil and planted elsewhere.

When we accept Christ we are spiritually transplanted. We receive our nourishment from Him…we do not wither.

We will prosper – not in material things but spiritually.

Our leaves will not fall off…we will flourish and bear fruit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

Together let us live our lives under the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we bear fruit and our leaves do not wither.

Blessings, Susan
