We are praying for clarity for decisions we are about to make.
We keep asking ourselves…
What do we do?
Is this the right thing?
Daily all of us face choices. Do I wear the blue or green outfit? Do I eat cereal or eggs? Do I go to the store today or tomorrow? These are rather easy questions to answer. Even though they may be trivial decisions, our choices still have a minor effect on our day or even our life.
Do I buy a new car or keep the old one? Do we move or remodel? Do I change jobs or remain where I am? Do I remain at this church or join another?
Now these are the difficult ones and the impact of our choices can be significant.
It’s not as if there is a book in the Bible called the Book of Decisions.
Imagine if there was and it listed your name along with the answers to all the major decisions you will need to make throughout your lifetime!!
Of course that is a ridiculous fantasy.
I recall a story my pastor told years ago of a woman wondering if she should take a trip. She prayed before she went to bed. When she awoke the clock said 7:47…she thought that was God directing her to take the trip.
Well as silly as that sounds, many of us look for signs such as this to make major decisions.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Proverbs 9:10 says…
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. To learn about the Holy One is understanding.
When I first started studying the Bible I thought the “fear of the Lord” meant to actually be scared of Him.
It means to Respect and Obey Him!!
So, wisdom begins with Respecting and Obeying God.
The second half of Proverbs 9:10 states that to have understanding, one must know God.
The only way we can know Him is to read His Word and communicate with Him…PRAYER.
So READ the Word…and TALK to God. That, my friend, is how you obtain wisdom.
To me these two Scriptures say that if we want wisdom, we must ask God for this wisdom.
I believe that if we are communing with God, we will find peace in our actions and decisions.
Now when I say peace I do not mean some sort of transcendental state of mind where you start chanting…rather we will have the fruit of the spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23
I love the way this is stated in The Message:
But what happens when we live God’s way?
He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity.
We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people.
We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
WOW!! So this is what it looks like when we live God’s way!!
We will have CLARITY if we live His way as He gives us His fruit of the Spirit…and with His Holy Wisdom we will find peace.
