Maturing in Christ

Memories. What are your early memories?

I remember standing in my crib, holding my baby doll, calling out for my sister. For some reason I called her Gowa. Don’t ask me why.20130816-090904.jpg

My next memory is being allowed to sleep in a “Big Bed”…which consisted of two twin beds pushed together and shared with my 2 older sisters. Needless to say, I ended up sleeping in the crack between the beds and thus on the floor!

Mom had said that if I fell through the crack, it was back to the crib.

I begged my sisters not to tell her.

Why in the world would I think it was better to end up on the floor than spend the night on a crib mattress?

I wanted to be a “Big Girl”.

I was ready to grow-up.

So come on, let’s leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on “salvation by self-help” and turning in trust toward God; baptismal instructions; laying on of hands; resurrection of the dead; eternal judgment. God helping us, we’ll stay true to all that. But there’s so much more. Let’s get on with it! Hebrews 6:1-2 (MSG)

Do you want to remain being spoon fed the Word or grow up?

God wants us to Grow-up.

We are to move beyond the elementary teachings of Christ without abandoning the foundation, as there is so much more!!!

Once you have tasted the goodness of Heaven and experienced the workings of the Holy Spirit you should want to grow in your faith and knowledge of Christ.

When I was young I enjoyed the freedom and did not want to return to the crib…so it is with my relationship with Christ. There is so much freedom in a closer walk with God.

If your spiritual feeding consist of pabulum or insipid intellectual nourishment, you need to seek sustenance. It is your responsibility. Do not expect growth if God’s Word is hand fed to you.

Stand firm on your spiritual foundation.

Seek the Word for yourself.

Mature in Christ.

Enjoy the freedom maturity brings!!!

Blessings, Susan

  1. One of the bests I have read on this subject. Some of the best things about maturity is knowing there is more to learn and it is always awe inspiring when you reach a new level of understanding.

  2. Susan, thanks for the reminder to…Get up and Get Growing!
In our busy lives it sure is easy to become complacent and forget that God has so much more for each of us. Your words are a good reminder that daily we should be reaching out of complacency (or bad habits) to study and seek more of God’s word. Thanks again.
