Our indoor cat, Motorboat, was lying down taking a nap out on the back screened-in porch. Rumble went the garage door as my husband walked into the house.
Like a bolt of lightening Motorboat ran across the porch, through his little cat door, into the living room, continuing on through the hall and into the garage. As he ran across the garage door threshold, the door stopped allowing him to make a beeline for the front yard.
We could almost hear him scream out FREEDOM as he pranced around the yard.
It was almost 100 degrees outside. Soon he was in search for shade. Under one of the bushes in the front yard he went. No, not as cool as the house. Onto the backyard and beneath the ferns he traveled. Cooler, but still not like the air conditioning inside!
Soon he realized that what appeared to be a good idea was not!!
Oh, how I have done that in the past! How about you?
I’ve thought something was a great idea, tried it out and soon discovered it was a regretful choice.
All that is gold does not glitter…begins the poem by J.R.R. Tolkien.
This “gold” could be an activity, a “friend”, a book or TV show, even a job.
God’s Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:33 ~ Don’t let anyone deceive you. Associating with bad people will ruin decent people.
Proverbs 14:12 says it best. There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time, but all that laughter will end in heartbreak.
Motorboat soon realized he did not want to be out in the heat. It seemed harmless to run outside, but soon he understood it was just too hot.
Our cat came home, back into the safety of our care…is it time for you to get out of the heat and come home to God?
