“Don’t Look at Me!” the macaws seemed to say as we visited the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
No matter what we tried, they hid. Tucking their heads under their wings, turning their backs to us, all the while they cleaned and groomed themselves. Finally we decided a photo op was not about to be found and we might as well move on to other exhibits.
Later in the day we returned to the macaws and now that they had cleaned up their act, they would look at us.
Wow!! That is what many of us do when we are in the midst of our sin. We hide from God, we turn our backs on Him, we try to clean up our act, and then and only then do we feel we are worthy to look toward God.
Silly. He sees us in the middle of our discombobulation and He still loves us. He wants to be a part of our busy, messy lives.
“Do you really think anyone can hide himself where I cannot see him?” the LORD asks. “Do you not know that I am everywhere?” the LORD asks. Jeremiah 23:24 (NET Bible)
O God, you know how foolish I am;
my sins cannot be hidden from you. Psalm 69:5 (NLT)
Yet God loves us IN SPITE of ourselves!!
“God loves us the way we are, but too much to leave us that way” (Leighton Ford)
