Jumping on Father’s Day

Standing at the water’s edge my heart pounded. With his arms lifted up, Dad said, “Jump, Honey, jump. I’ll catch you.”20130616-183714.jpg

My parents had just built a pool. I was in second grade. On vacation I had learned to paddle, but never had I actually jumped into the water.

I didn’t hesitate. As I jumped it never occurred to me that my Father would not be strong enough to catch me or that he would swim away and leave me floundering.

Although my heart pounded, I knew he was not only able to catch me, he would catch me.

With great confidence in him, I jumped, sliding into his strong arms. Dad carried me through the waters to safety.Jump

Daniel 3 tells us that King Nebuchadnezzar was furious with rage that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego would not bow down and worship the golden image he had made. He told them if they did not bow down and worship, they would be thrown into a blazing furnace. They responded, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king.”

They knew their God not only had the power to rescue them, He would rescue them. Just like my Dad.

All those many years ago I jumped into my Dad’s open arms and now I am leaping into my Heavenly Father’s. I know He is able and that He will keep me safe.

No matter what the future holds for me or for you dear reader…God is able.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2

What are you jumping into? Is there a new adventure around the corner?

Know that our God is big enough for whatever life throws at you. He will carry you on your life’s trek…He will catch you and carry you to safety.

Blessings, Susan
