Most of us know someone with a life threatening illness. Cancer, MS, heart disease, diabetes…the list goes on and on.
We pray for that person, their physician and other caregivers, the treatments to work…we pray for a miracle.
This week during my travels I met a brilliant young lady on her way to a friend’s wedding in Georgia. Dressed casually, reading a e-book no one would suspect she just may be the answer to their prayers.
She is currently a member of a Clinical Trial Research Team that is working on a breakthrough medication for Multiple Sclerosis.
As we discussed her work I realized that over the years people across the world have prayed for her – maybe not directly but when a prayer for a better treatment or cure was said 20 years ago God had her in mind. Her and thousands of other little boys and girls.
“Study hard. Love the sciences. I’ve given you the tools to do great things,” God quietly encourages young people across the world.
This lovely young lady with the cute smile had a love for physics and microbiology, studied hard and now is part of a healthcare solution.
Who prayed for her? Her grandpa and grandma? Her Mom and Dad? You? Me?
Yes, you! Yes, me!
Over the years as we’ve prayed for a miracle, for a cure…God in His infinite wisdom has been preparing young minds who would eventually stand in a research lab finding the answers.
With a lump in my throat I encouraged this young lady sitting next to me on the plane. Telling her to keep up the good work, that researchers such as herself are the answers to many prayers.
It was researchers such as her that were a part of the melanoma trial that put our friend and relative into remission.
When you think of the vast players that are part of a healthcare miracle, it is almost impossible to grasp all the infinitesimal details God orchestrated.
Years ago when I tucked my kids in at night I’d tell them God has special plans for you, don’t miss them.
God had special plans for this young lady sitting beside me…to be a part of the team that makes life better for someone with MS. What a privilege!
Little did she know that studying hard as a youth she was on the road to being part of a prayer said years ago or even one said yesterday.
Is God encouraging you to follow a certain plan?
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. (Psalm 25:4 NIV)
Are you praying for someone that is ill?
Thank God for those that are ardently working to find a cure, a miracle, a solution.
Just think that little girl or boy down the street may one day find the answer.
God’s plans are awesome!!
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. (Psalm 40:5 NIV)
