Gated Community

We had just finished dinner. Wade had grilled steaks on our patio.

As we started to clear the table, Wade looked out our bay window just in time to see who had been stealing our flowers.

Boldly the thief reached down and snatched a flower.

I ran for the camera. I wanted video proof.

He heard me opening the sliding door, dropping his plunder he ran as fast as he could.

Scrambling up the tree the squirrel was obviously disappointed he had only had time to take one or two bites before he was discovered.

So is he also the one that ate our pineapple? Or was it one of his relatives?

How do we keep him and his friends from doing this again?

We could put a special fence around everything. Of course that’s not practical.

I could stay In the backyard to protect the flowers and vegetables from being eaten by the critters. Sort of stand guard at the fence gate like a shepherd protects its flock. But there is no way that’s going to happen.

I like these flowers and veggies, but there is no way I would stay outside to keep them safe.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Good Shepherd. The Shepherd would create a sheepfold to keep the lambs safe. He loved them so much he would lie down and be the actual gate. It was through him the lambs would enter and it was because of him the lambs were safe from the wolves.

Thus it is through Christ you enter into His church. Are you part of the flock? Did you enter through the gate, through Christ or did you go around the gate?

You may be a member of a local church, maybe even very active, but if you do not know the Shepherd, you are missing out on the Kingdom of God.

He will protect you, He laid down His life for you. He loves you. He wants a relationship with you.

Christ said,
… “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
(John 10:7 NIV)
