I have always been a blonde..more of a darker blonde…but blonde.
Blonde was God’s design. Not wanting to argue with His original plans, I ensured I remained a blonde even when my hair turned gray in my twenties!
About 5 years ago I developed an allergy to hair coloring. My stylist tried everything, but after several trips to the Urgent Care Center it was obvious I must embrace my grays.
I think my very white hair makes me look older and that fact has bothered me. On my walk yesterday I realized I not only need to embrace those gray hairs, I need to celebrate them!!
When Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple on the eighth day after His birth, it was 2 older prophets, Simeon and Anna, who recognized He was The Messiah. In the Jewish Culture at that time a senior citizen was respected…they were considered wise.
She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God. She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem. (Luke 2:38 NLT)
Anna was widowed after only 7 years of marriage. For 84 years she remained at the temple, day and night, worshiping The Lord.
Can you imagine the depth of her faith? The magnitude of her relationship with God?
Later in the New Testament we read where Titus is instructed by Paul to encourage the people of the church. Teach the older generations to reflect God’s truth in their actions, thus guiding the youth.
To live reverent lives.
Lives that would spur the younger men and women to want to model their behavior.
Do I live a life one would want to model their’s after? As an older woman, is my faith reflected in my every day actions?
And am I doing as God instructed? Am I encouraging younger women to live a life of truth and faith?
What a privilege it is to have this head of grays!!
