A Perfect Day ~ by susan werthem

I just finished watching a movie called “A Perfect Day”. I enjoyed it and thought it had a good message.

What does your perfect day look like? Would you say today was a perfect day?

For me, today was a really good day…maybe even a great day. Not sure I would call it perfect, but it was good great. The more I think about it, it was definitely a great day.

Earlier this year we took in our son’s dog, Marlee. His wife’s allergies had become much worse after her pregnancy. In hopes to keep the dog, she went for allergy shots, but one day this summer she ended up in the Emergency Room with a bad reaction to one of the shots. Knowing their keeping the dog was not an option, we offered to have Marlee move in with us.

Oh how I loved having her as a part of our family. She became my shadow. I just love her!!Marlee

But…low and behold I too am allergic! Can you believe it? So this sweet senior dog must move once more.

I contacted The Old Dog House, a nonprofit public charity in Jacksonville, FL that focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming older and senior dogs. They graciously posted Marlee’s photo and story on their Facebook page last night. Within 14 hours that post had been shared with over 150 people!!!

By noon we had someone who wanted Marlee to become a part of their family!! What a lovely Christmas gift to all of us! As tough as it is to see her go, I feel so blessed to know she is going to a loving home…a home that was looking for a senior dog.Marlee with sock

For those of you who are looking for a charity to donate to before the end of the year, please consider The Old Dog House. Their intent is to rehome the older and senior dogs they rescue and rehabilitate. Sometimes, rehoming is not an option due to medical, behavioral, or physical issues. In these cases, the dog will remain a resident of The Old Dog House for the remainder of their life. They call these dogs ‘Permanent Residents’.

Every dog at The Old Dog House is viewed and treated as part of the family. They do not have kennels, runs, or cages, rather they live in a true home environment with all of the comforts of home.

They certainly have found a new fan and supporter in me! And please know when you share FB posts it really works.
Merry Christmas to all of you and may you have a blessed New Year.

Blessings, Susan

    1. Yes, she is in a wonderful home. We get monthly updates on her that sometimes include pictures. I could not have asked for a better home. Thanks for asking. (Actually Marlee is a girl.)
