Blessings ~ Took time for myself this weekend…
God provided mental REST, social FELLOWSHIP, and spiritual RENEWAL.
The past several days have been great. It has been so long since I took time to rejuvenate that I had forgotten why God commands us to take time to rest.
“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:9-11
Spending the first part of my weekend at the women’s retreat provided me a Sabbath-rest…which led right into fellowship.
The early church dedicated themselves to spiritual fellowship and the breaking of bread.
Acts 2:42 tell us…
“ they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship [KOINONIA], to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
KOINONIA – fellowship, sharing in common, communion
I had a KOINONIA weekend…the breaking of bread with new found Christian friends and some friends from years gone by…we laughed, ate, talked…and then spent time learning more about one another.
Our speaker showed us how to go from being a superficial friend that discusses just the external topics…such as how are you, what do you do, etc…to being in touch with the person’s internal emotions…this does not happen easily. But we had exercises on how to move to a deeper level in our relationships.
Once we have a deeper relationship with a friend, we can then easily and at times if we are honest with ourselves not so easily…we can begin to share the things that matter eternally.
Great lessons learned…and applied immediately upon return to home.
We had over 20 guests for dinner when I returned home…most were from out of town. Several asked about the church retreat…I listened to their questions and comments, I listened to my gut, and I listened to the Holy Spirit. I believe I was able to gracefully express what my faith means to me in a non-threatening manner. What an honor to share God’s love and grace – this definitely added to my spiritual renewal.
In fact, if you are one of those people that I shared with, please return to this blog…soon there will be a question – answer page for those who are wondering what it means to have a personal relationship with God.
So..REST, FELLOWSHIP and SPIRITUAL Renewal!!! That’s what every weekend should entail. It has been a long time since I have had a weekend filled with true peace, camaraderie, and sacred rejuvenation.
Once I allowed myself to have such a weekend I quickly remembered why God wants us to rest. Fellowship with other believers is essential…we encourage one another and better yet we make each other better….this results in a spiritual renewal…it did for me.
Blessings, Susan…also, please continue to pray for baby Claire, she is still very critical. Thank you.
