A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
Proverbs 31:10, 26
Have you met such a woman? Do you know someone that epitomizes the Proverbs 31 woman?
I met Alice over 30 years ago. Her son went to high school with my husband and myself.
Originally, we actually knew her husband better. He had played pro-ball in his younger years and loved to watch our boys play baseball when they were growing up. We would stop by their home, chat and then take Charlie to one of the kid’s ballgames.
Charlie also loved to fish. The perfect combo for my husband – fishing and baseball.
Charlie went to be with the Lord several years ago.
I really did not get to know Alice until just a few years ago when I changed churches. I can truthfully say that I have never met such a prayer warrior, devoted woman of God… she is the wife of noble character…a godly woman.
I remember the first time I spoke to her about a situation I was having with another person…I was whining. With such poise and loving tenderness she responded, “We need to pray for ____.” My brain screamed, “Pray for her? I didn’t want that response, I wanted you to commiserate with me!!” But I knew she was right.
Many times when I begin to whine, I remember Alice’s response…and I remind myself to pray and stop my whining.
Alice’s health has declined over the years. A few months ago when I called her she was so excited that she could still do her volunteer work…from her home. The church was bringing her clothes for the Thrift Store for her to fold…and she felt so blessed to be able to continue this ministry. Can you imagine? A true servant’s heart!
She can no longer go to the church every Tuesday to be a part of the Prayer Team, but she prays without ceasing from her living room.
This past Wednesday I was able to go to our church’s small group. While I was there Alice called our house to inquire on my health; she had heard I had been hospitalized with pneumonia. I was overwhelmed when I returned home and learned she had called. Alice now weighs less than 100 pounds, uses a walker, is confined to her home…and she was concerned about me!!
Many women do noble things, but Alice surpasses them all!
I feel blessed and honored to be considered one of her friends. Titus instructs the older women to be reverent in how they live, to teach what is good, to be self-controlled and to train the younger women to show love to their husbands and children.
I thank Alice for teaching me these things and making me accountable for my actions.
Alice has been a model Christian for many women in our church and community.
Who is modeling your behavior? Are your actions noble and full of grace? When someone reads Proverbs 31, does your face come to mind?
Prayer:Lord, show me where I need to improve, to live a reverent life and for my actions to noble and full of grace.
PS…it is great to be back!! My health is so much better. Thank you for your prayers.
