Decide for Yourself

“You can’t let other people tell you who you are.  You have to decide that for yourself.”

What a great quote!  (not sure who originally said this!)…as you can tell I have been looking at my inspirational quotes app again.

Today one of my fellow bloggers wrote me about what she was reading…in our conversation I said I had started to write a Christian romance novel.  Unfortunately I had set it aside just because other people had been negative in their reviews.  I had joined a fiction writers group who wrote very dark storylines.  When it was time for them to read mine they did not like the storyline…too sappy.

Well, yeah!  That was the point.  I had received positive reviews in the past, but I allowed a group of strangers to discourage me.  Why?  Why did I allow others to bring me down and to take my dreams away?

Why did I give them the power?

Well NO MORE!

Over the past several years I have started writing two devotional books, one mystery novel and the Christian romance novel mentioned above.  The key word in that sentence is STARTED.  I stand (actually I am sitting) before you and commit to finishing at least one of these projects this year.  By December 31, 2012 – one of these will be completed.  Which? I don’t know.

I am going to prayerfully ask God for direction…and then move forward.  I am not going to let someone else determine who I am or what I am.  This day forward, I am a committed Christian author…no more excuses.

What dreams have you allowed someone else to crush?  Who is defining who you are?

Who is defining me?  I am…with Christ’s direction.  God does not want me or you to be sitting on the sideline.  Get up and let your dream take shape.

As I grow older I understand why Philippians 4:13 was my mother’s favorite Scripture.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
