Getting together with family usually includes the reciting of stories of old, the remembering of previous gatherings and reminiscences of those who are no longer with us. In the midst of this we are also making new memories to be shared in future.
Yesterday afternoon as I walked outside I heard my husband say, “Ahoy, Matey!” Together in the hammock was ‘Papa’ with our three and half year old grandson both in search of the Pirates’ treasure. It was such fun to listen as my husband wove this wonderful tale.
These are the family moments I savor. Such great stories to be shared in the future.
Year after year, century after century, Christians have recited the story of the birth of Christ. Today let us not for sake that tradition.
” I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior, yes, the Messiah, the Lord has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth…” (Luke 2:1&14a)
Today as we celebrate Christmas, my prayer is that each of us creates wonderful memories…moments to be treasured far more than gold…but most importantly may we take the time to share the greatest story ever told…Christ’s birth and His resurrection.
