When did the Christmas season begin? Many believe it was the Friday after Thanksgiving that marks the beginning of Christmas and holiday shopping. Dubbed Black Friday, it is a day of massive traffic jams as stores are mobbed by people searching for a sale.
For others, Christmas begins when Santa arrives at the mall or the day of the local Christmas parade. But we do not need an ad in the newspaper or Santa Claus at the mall to tell us the Christ child was born.
In Isaiah 7:10 Christ’s birth was foretold.
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
And why was He sent? According to 1st John 4, “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love.”
The Advent season, the arrival of the Christ child, is not announced by the appearance of a man dressed in red. Rather His arrival was proclaimed by angels; a proclamation that revealed His love for us.
Christmas season is all year-round if our hearts are filled with God’s love and grace; a love that is unfailing and endures forever.
