Have you seen the new game show “You Deserve it?” A contestant competes to win money for someone they feel deserves the prize. Tonight a sister is winning money for her brother that was injured in Iraq after his Humvee ran over an IED. Because of his selfless actions after he was wounded and lost his leg, he was awarded the Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart.
The sister’s winnings are to help him realize his goal to design and build limbs for amputees in war-torn countries. How refreshing it is to see a positive show on TV!
While she is playing the game, the brother is eating dinner at a restaurant, unaware he will soon be awarded her winnings. Why? Because his sister feels he deserves it!
How does the game show work? The contestant is provided a series of clues to a trivia type question. The fewer clues needed, the more money she can win.
It is a heartwarming 60 minutes. The key to the game is the clues. Guess the correct answer and the winnings increase. Surely the money makes a difference in the lives of the recipients, but that difference is only temporary.
Are you seeking the “clues” to a permanent change in your life? The Bible provides us the answers with more than just clues; it provides us with the evidence.
Saving us and giving us the gift of eternal life was all God’s idea and all His work. All we have to do is trust Him, have faith in Him, not in ourselves, and the gift of heaven and eternal life is ours. God saves us by His grace.
How do we receive this grace?
Many people think they deserve the gift of eternal life because of their good deeds – that the good will outweigh the bad. That seems to be the right way, but it is not. We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God’s forgiveness. This forgiveness is available to all of us; however we must turn from our sinful ways toward Christ.
Jesus said, “But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” You can have God’s forgiveness, heaven and eternal life, and Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord. But how?
In the game show, You Deserve It, the monetary gift was available to the brother, but until he accepted it, it was not his. The same with the gift of eternal life; it is not yours until you accept Jesus Christ as you Lord and Savior.
Romans 10:9 tells us that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
A gift. That is exactly what salvation is. We can not earn it and we do not deserve it. Christ did all of the work for you and for me. He wants you to accept His gift because He believes you deserve it. That you are worthy of this gift – because of what He did.
If you want to accept His gift of eternal life, please pray this simple prayer.
“Lord Jesus, I want you to come in and take over my life. I am a sinner. I trust you now, not my good deeds, but you alone. I believe you died for my sins, according to the Scriptures, that you were buried, and that you arose again on the third day. Help me to turn from my sins and to turn toward you. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, Amen.”
If you just prayed this prayer for the first time, I urge to share this with another believer. Start praying and talking to your Father daily. He loves you and is waiting with open arms for you. Please know that the angels in heaven are rejoicing over your decision and so am I!
