Listen

In the morning the house can be very quiet: no TV, no music, the windows shut…silence…well silence except for the loud crackling noise in my left ear. It’s a new development due to allergies. It starts out as a little crackle that soon becomes like a large marching band; it can be very annoying…when it is quiet. Thankfully that is not very often…or is that such a good thing? Is it good that all that noise surrounds me daily?

You see I can actually go days without noticing the crackling.  Why?  I always have something going…TV, music, phone, my mouth!!

When do I actually quietly sit?  Even when in prayer I am not quiet…most of the time I am running on and on with my on-going commentary, list of requests, praises and thanksgiving for His mercies and grace, but when do I sit quietly and intentionally listen to God?  Truthfully not often enough.  Oh, don’t get me wrong, I spend time talking to God, I just don’t spend enough time allowing Him to talk to me.  Or better said, with God.

When was the last time I talked with Him?

Suddenly I am thankful for this noise.  It is a reminder that I need to be more acutely aware of the two-way conversation God wants to have with me.

Are you listening?  What are you hearing?

Scripture:  And he said, “Pay attention to what you hear…”  Mark 4:24a

  1. A lovely post!

Prayer is speaking; Meditation is listening. Sometimes we need to learn meditation and find silence so we may hear “the still, small voice” and other times, our Lord will push us into silence so that we may hear. To choose it, I have found, is much better than waiting for the push. God bless you and thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much for the positive feedback. May God Bless you also. I wasn’t sure anyone was going to read my ramblings…and even if only a few do so, they have helped me already focus more on Him…and that was the whole point of this blog!
