In the past we had a winter garden; okra, tomatoes, eggplant and more. It was so much fun to watch each of our plants grow and see the beginnings of their fruit. But to our surprise, not all of them were what we planted; weeds had snuck into the patch of ground.
We were so caught up in the fruits of our labor we missed them; they looked healthy. Some of them were flowering and really looked so nice, but they were strangling our vegetables and soon the garden was full of weeds. So we had to pay more attention to the weeds than our original crop.
Isn’t life a lot like that? We nurture and cultivate all sorts of things; we become busy with something that appears to be good and they very well may be, but before we know it we are no longer producing the spiritual fruits God has intended for us.
Pray today for discernment of what is true and what weeds need to be pulled.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8
